Edward Woodward: The Answer to Lee Majors
Published 10 Nov 2003, 12:09
Edward Woodward. What’s in a name? Not much, when it comes to being an Edward Woodward. He knows he’s no Don Johnson, Lee Majors, Tom Selleck or Mr. T in high-concept name recognition in America. Yet, the English actor is determined to make a name for himself in the New World as The Equalizer. He’s the graying, stockbroker look-alike type seen Wednesdays on Channel 2 at 10pm., the hero of the new hour-long private-eye show. [Read more...]

A True Un-Equalized Problem All Those Years Ago
Published 22 Jul 2004, 05:24 Published 10 Dec 2003, 13:13
Since the original premiere CBS run of "The Equalizer" back in the mid-to-late Eighties, very few commercial releases for the show have been produced and released. Although these few releases have been very successful and profitable, Universal Studios, the series´ original production financers, and worldwide distributors, haven´t picked up on the fact that "The Equalizer" is still going very strong, and is gaining more and more dedicated, loving and die-hard fans almost every month. [Read more...] Written by: Anna S. Disclaimer from the Original Author: Universal owns the characters of Robert McCall, Mickey Kostmayer, Scott McCall and Control. I just took them out for a while, dusted them off and played with them and now I´m returning them. John Lennon belonged to himself, and his music will live on, even though he has been gone now for twenty-three years. This fan-fiction is dedicated to the loving memory of John Lennon, 1940-1980. Equalizing CBS´ Programer
Published 31 Dec 2003, 12:09
I´m sure Jeff Sagansky, who is replacing Kim LeMasters as the head of programming at CBS, is a genius. He is the man they said they wanted in the first place, except he was too expensive. If they wanted Sagansky, they´d have to buy Columbia Pictures, too. Or something. I never completely understand all these complex, multimillion-dollar deals for creative geniuses. Poor Kim LeMasters was not alone in making some of those decisions, like what they did to Beauty and the Beast last week. He obviously had a lot of help from Howard Stringer, whose entertainment experience includes having been president of CBS News, and Larry Tisch, a veteran broadcaster in his own right. Since this is a time of good cheer to all men, I´ll give them all credit. The question I would ask in judging his qualifications is where he stands on the great issues of our time, such as The Equalizer? [Read more...]

´Equalizer´ Replays a Horrifying Child Death The Equalizer
Published 01 Dec 2003, 10:06 Published 10 Nov 2003, 12:05
The case of Joel Steinberg, the New York lawyer recently sentenced to 8-to-25 years for the 1987 beating death of his illegally adopted 6-year-old daughter Lisa, was the rare true-life crime story that elicited intense shame, grief, anger and guilt from people who merely heard about it in the news. [Read more...] In dealing with the day-to-day injustices of life, how nice it would be to simply summon up The Equalizer. Herein lies the beauty of the series, for everyone can identify with the need to rectify misdeeds, to right all wrongs. Although show’s ratings have had ups and downs, it’s survived four seasons--perhaps because CBS execs know they have a gem on their hands--and season’s premiere is an indication skein’s producers are continuing efforts to refine this gem into a bumished jewel. An Unlikely Equalizer
Published 31 Oct 2003, 06:57
This is where CBS comes in. CBS, in a smart counter-programming move, has taken its three wavering detective shows, ´Mike Hammer´, ´Magnum, PI´, and The Equalizer, and has turned the three into a formidable Wednesday night shootout. And so far, it’s working. "‘Magnum’" has been averaging a 16.5 rating this season, up two points from last season," says a CBS spokesman. "And in Magnum´s wake, The Equalizer has started to take charge of Wednesday. The two shows are helping to keep us (CBS) in business this season." [Read more...]

Fatherhood Flatters The Equalizer
Published 31 Oct 2003, 06:56
It´s not exactly the stuff of greeting cards. But then again, The Equalizer´s tough-guy Robert McCall is hardly the sugary type. Instead, he´s a feisty, slightly bitter ex-CIA man who would no sooner get teary-eyed over his offspring than wring his hands at the unexpected sight of blood. That´s the way Equalizer producer Scott Shepherd explains the complicated and gruff, but always humorous, on-screen relationship between Robert McCall, played by British actor Edward Woodward, and his son Scott, played by New Yorker William Zabka.
